This summer, there's something for everyone to enjoy as we welcome an exciting range of touring productions to the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse. Join us for aspiring leaders, drag king cabarets, community stories and famous detective mysteries.
Proto-type Theater comes to the Playhouse from Wednesday 10 - Thursday 11 May. In rooms like this room people lie. Not little lies, the kinds of lies that kill people, or worse… Dead Cats blends new writing, performance, film-making, and an obvious plant, to show – not tell – the truths behind the fictions.
Family Tree follows on Tuesday 23 – Wednesday 24 May. Written by Mojisola Adebayo and directed by Matthew Xia, Family Tree is a beautifully poetic drama about the incredible legacy of one of the most influential Black women in medical history: Henrietta Lacks.
On Thursday 25 - Friday 26 May, Sheffield’s Forced Entertainment presents If All Else Fails: a comical and complex two hander featuring Cathy Naden and guest artist Seke Chimutengwende, two powerful forces in the contemporary theatre scene. Co-produced by Sheffield Theatres and Cambridge Junction.
Bossy plays on Saturday 27 May. Beth wants to become the world’s best leader, but people keep calling her bossy. Zoo Co’s new show for ages 5+ is performed in British Sign Language and Sign Supported English.
We Need New Names then plays Monday 5 - Tuesday 6 June. Fifth Word and New Perspectives present this defiant coming-of-age story, full of exuberance, humour and humanity. Based on the Booker Prize-shortlisted novel by NoViolet Bulawayo and adapted by Mufaro Makubika.
Next comes Modest which runs on Friday 9 - Saturday 10 June. Music hall, theatre and drag king cabaret erupt as Middle Child and Milk Presents bring you Elizabeth Thompson – megastar of the Victorian art scene.
Silent Faces present Godot Is A Woman, playing on Tuesday 13 June. A whip-smart interrogation of gender, authorial copyright and the cultural significance of Madonna’s album, Like a Prayer.
Swim, written and performed by Liz Richardson, plays on Saturday 24 June. When her new community is rocked by tragedy, Liz rediscovers outdoor swimming and how it can keep her and her friends afloat.
Biscuit of Destiny is on Thursday 20 July. John Hegley returns with his Lustrum Award-winning show, which delves into the eccentric side of Romantic poet John Keats.
Finally, Watson: The Final Problem plays on Saturday 22 July. The year is 1894. London seethes with false reports and rumour. It is time to set the record straight. So Watson tells his tale and must face nemesis Professor Moriarty. A thrilling tale of long-buried secrets, betrayal and death based on the Sherlock Holmes stories by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
