We’re celebrating the five-year anniversary of the The Bank, our creative hub dedicated to the talent development of local artists. Alongside the anniversary, we’re delighted to announce the eight members of the 2025 Bank Cohort.
The Bank opened in November 2019, a signifier of our expanding commitment to local theatre makers Located adjacent to the Crucible, The Bank is a creative space for local artists and theatre makers to develop work, skills, collaborations and careers with the support of Sheffield Theatres. The Bank houses The Bank Cohort: a group of early-career creatives in the South Yorkshire region who join the programme for a fixed term in order to develop projects, hone their skills and receive mentoring and workshops from our producing and artistic teams.
The members of the new 2025 Bank Cohort are Georgina Botham, Joe Bunce, Charlie Ayers, Flo Gill, Erin Marsh, Verity Richards, CJ Simon, and Rachel E. Thorn. The 2025 Bank Cohort will take part in ten months of bespoke training, mentored by Sheffield Theatres’ staff: Ruby Clarke (Artist Development Manager) and Nick Stevenson (Producing and Programming Director).
To mark the five-year anniversary, artists from across Sheffield Theatres’ Talent Development programme spoke about the work they’ve been doing:
Ruby Clarke, Artist Development Manager, said: “We couldn’t be happier to be celebrating five years of Talent Development at The Bank at Sheffield Theatres. One of the most unique milestones represented by the announcement of our fifth Bank Cohort is that our total of Bank Cohort artists is now exactly 54, and that 2025 sees the 54th birthday of the Crucible Theatre. Sheffield Theatres is dedicated to making certain that our region continues to develop as one of the best places in the country to pursue a creative career.”
Tommi Bryson, Talent Development Coordinator, added: “It is a huge privilege to do the work we do to support, enable, connect, and develop local artists and careers. Our creative community has gone from strength to strength over the past five years, and we can’t wait to share what’s next.
We also want to use this moment of celebration to highlight the contributions of our friend and supporter Barbara Crossley, who passed away in August last year. Barbara, who had worked with Sheffield Theatres as a script reader and audio describer, was a brilliant and insightful supporter of our Talent Development programme; and a vital proponent of our New Dramaturgs Group project. We will miss her immensely and are proud to be continuing the work that she inspired.”
Sheffield Theatres’ Talent Development activity is based at The Bank - Sheffield Theatres’ dedicated hub for artists - made possible thanks to the generous support of Jo and Chris Hookway.
