Ahead of the original production of Standing at the Sky’s Edge in 2019, to help shape the show, we interviewed current and ex-residents from Park Hill flats and recorded their accounts of what life was like at the edge of Sheffield’s skyline over the last sixty years.
Of the group we interviewed, the Hill brothers - Gary, Paul and Andrew - recall early life in the Park Hill flats in the 60s and 70s as being ‘just like one big family.’ They remember friendly pranks played on neighbours and the strong community bond shared by residents.
Pat, also born in Park Hill, sang the praises of those she grew up living beside, saying that ‘all I could remember was the great people’ in and around the flats.
