We today announce the acts to feature in Festival on the Square, a two-week outdoor festival running from Monday 16 - Monday 30 August as part of Sheffield’s ‘Summer in the Outdoor City’ campaign. Artists programmed by us will perform over the weekend from Friday 27 – Sunday 29 August. The acts run alongside live art installations, film screenings curated by the Showroom Cinema, live music and interactive workshops.
On Friday 27 August, performances will run from 8pm with the last performance at 8.45pm. On Saturday 28 August performances will run from 11am with the last performance at 9pm, and on Sunday 27 August performances will run from 11am with the last performance at 3pm.
Friday’s performers include: SheBeKeKe performing a mixture of poetry and sound, and archipelago, performing a selection of songs, poetry and monologues from their acclaimed productions.
Saturday’s performers include:Hassun El Zafar’s family-friendly and immersive science street show, Sid Bowfin combining classical music and comedy, BEASTHOUSE presenting one-man show ‘WOLF’, poet and spoken word artist Genevieve Carver, Cosmic Collective Theatre’s Heaven's Gate, platinum-winning songwriter and vocalist Sarah Jay Hawley presenting Zen, Drugs ‘n’ Rock ‘n’ Roll, and music, laughter, and queer joy from Sheffield-based arts organisation Sounds Queer.
Sunday’s performers include: Sid Bowfin combining classical music and comedy, Caro Sparks’s unique approach to signing songs in BSL (British Sign Language), interdisciplinary performer and maker Akeim Toussaint Buck presents Beatmotion, versatile and charming theatrical act Comedy Waiters, and artistic and accessible dance company Doorstep Dances.
