The Crucible and all of the Sheffield Theatres buildings look different today. Designer Ben Stones (Coriolanus, Standing At The Sky's Edge) and a team of volunteers including members of Sheffield People's Theatre have wrapped the building in custom made Missing Live Theatre tape as part of a campaign called SceneChange.
SceneChange is a UK-wide design project that wraps empty buildings with a bright message of hope, visibility and solidarity. Organised by a community of designers who work in theatre, the campaign highlights how these buildings are currently without their usual hustle and bustle.
Designer Ben Stones said:
"Sheffield Theatres is the perfect example of what we’re trying to save about the ecology of UK theatre. Today we’re using our Missing Live Theatre installation to symbolically link The Crucible, with its wide-ranging programme and its incredible history, The Lyceum with its impressive touring commercial work, The Studio's spirit of adventure and new writing, and the experimental laboratory The Bank. I grew up watching productions across all of its spaces, and I’ve always been inspired by their ability to challenge and surprise. By acknowledging all 4 spaces, SceneChange underline the importance of this ecology to our art form. All are crucial, all are necessary for the industry to survive and thrive."
