We are delighted to share opportunities from our latest Talent Development programme; the first under the Artistic Direction of Elizabeth Newman.
On announcement of the latest programme, Elizabeth said:
“We’re excited to announce the next round of open calls for a range of artist opportunities we’ve been proud to offer over the past few years at Sheffield Theatres.
Ruby Clarke (Artist Development Manager) and Tommi Bryson (Talent Development Coordinator) have done an outstanding job leading programmes like The Bank Cohort, Rolling Residencies, Script Window, and Making Room. Thanks to their energy, passion, and determination, hundreds of artists have received support—both formal and informal—through these initiatives.
Over the past few months, we’ve been refining some of these programmes, and in the coming months, we’ll be introducing even more ways for artists across different disciplines to connect with us and receive support.
But first, we’re thrilled to share a new series of open auditions specifically for actors based in South Yorkshire. I'm especially passionate about supporting actors as artists here at Sheffield Theatres, and I’m really looking forward to meeting and working with more local talent—along with other directors and casting professionals who are eager to do the same.
We can’t wait to connect with you.”
The Making Room Observers programme will continue throughout Elizabeth’s inaugural season of work. These are introductory opportunities for aspiring theatre artists in our region to observe a rehearsal process at Sheffield Theatres. Applications are open now to become the Making Room Observer for Dancing at Lughnasa, and we’ll be opening applications for Making Room Observers on other productions in our latest season of shows in the coming months.
We also announce the next phase of our Rolling Residencies programme, a project that offers funding, space and resources to new theatre projects in our region. Application Window 6 will feature increased funding pots and a clearer application process, and is open for applications now.
Within our upcoming season that includes a wide range of new and reimagined work, we are also pleased to announce another Script Window where writers local to Sheffield Theatres can submit their work to us. This recurring opportunity is designed to give deadlines and dedicated resources to writers not yet represented professionally in our region, ensuring that Sheffield Theatres is consistently up-to-date with the talent of South Yorkshire.
Finally, a round of General Workshop Auditions for Local Actors will offer professional actors based in our region a new wave of workshop auditions led by directors working across our upcoming season of productions. Sheffield Theatres is dedicated to meeting and working with local performers and continue to honour this commitment with this new workshop opportunity.
Looking further forward, we will be sharing information about our plans for the 2026 Bank Cohort and the next evolution of the New Dramaturgs Group in the coming months.
