Back in July 2023, we celebrated the creativity of our communities with Together Too: a programme of activity supporting artistic projects across a number of local groups in and around Sheffield. With the support of Sheffield Theatres, each group developed different art forms through exhibitions, installations, performance, dance and workshops, concluding with a sharing and celebration event on Friday 28 and Saturday 29 July in and around the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse.
Community groups who contributed to Stories of the City included: The Norfolk Park Arbourthorne Men’s Group, The Furnival, Side By Side Theatre Company, Sheffield’s Dementia Friendly Choir, Sheffield People’s Theatre, Shipshape, Stand and Be Counted Theatre Company and Mappin Street Writers Group.
Community groups who contributed to City of Dreams included: CHILYPEP, Know Your Place Youth Club, Manor After School Kids’ Klub, Pinder Dance Productions, SAGE (Support Arts Gardening Education), and S2 Womens Creative Group
Talking about the festival, Simon Marshall, Community Engagement Officer at Sheffield Theatres, said:
“Together Too is a legacy – a legacy of our incredible Together In The City programme and festival in 2021-22, but especially of the brilliant, beautiful and dynamic work of the community groups we’ve been proud to engage with across the city in 2023. This two-day festival is for Sheffield to feel a sense of belonging of its theatres – of its stages, spaces and stories. It’s a programme of work co-created with participants of all ages, from across the seven hills and beyond.”
Together Too is a creative programme supported by Graham and Sue Royle through their business, GRI Group Ltd., whose funding has enabled wider development of Sheffield Theatres’ participation projects within local communities.
