Throughout autumn 2024, members of our team ran weekly sessions for people living with dementia and their carers, based around our Christmas musical, Little Shop of Horrors.
With singing, movement, creative activities and refreshments, the project was a great success with lots of joy shared in the sessions!
Feedback from participants of the sessions
'We can not thank your staff enough for the interaction with all of our service users that we bring to the Crucible! One participant spent the whole trip back on the bus singing Little Shop of Horrors! It was magical!!'
- Activity Team Leader, Longley Park View
'The project itself and the staff running it were fabulous and accommodating and we looked forward to visiting every week as it was such a pleasure.'
- The staff and residents at the Hallamshire Care Home
'Many thanks for organising Dementia Friendly projects. As well as the Tea Dances where we have made new friends, my husband and I were lucky enough to attend the Little Shop of Horrors workshops. We always look forward to coming and meeting the lovely staff and volunteers. My husband becomes absorbed in the craft activities whilst I enjoy the lovely friendly relaxed atmosphere. For a whole afternoon someone to chat and laugh with. It means so much to us both. Heartful thanks.'
- Project participants
After the success of the Little Shop of Horrors Dementia Friendly Project, we will not only continue to run our monthly tea dances, but also launch a new project called Time Together.
This will be a monthly creative activity session held in the Crucible foyer, available for people living with dementia and their family, friends and carers to book in.
Time Together has been named based on feedback from guests from the project - the thing they most enjoyed and appreciated was time together, escaping the walls of home or doctors surgeries.
