Launchpad will be performing a brand new show, CommuniTree, in the Playhouse on Friday 31 March. Launchpad is Sheffield Theatres’ project for adults aged 18+ with learning disabilities and/or Autism. The group devise, write and perform a new show each year, with CommuniTree being this year’s production.
It is 2073, the world is living with the shortages left by the recklessness of past generations. But this community of neighbours although living their separate lives have a common resource, a tree that has despite all odds grown and adapted to its environment. The CommuniTree is a precious rare specimen that has attracted some dubious interest. Will the neighbours come together to protect their CommuniTree or will it be lost for ever?
Launchpad members have been working for 13 weeks to devise the production, with the final performance staged in the Playhouse.
Audio Description is embedded into the piece through descriptive dialogue and sound effects, with audiences also receiving a video and audio flyer before the show, which introduces the characters.
There will be integrated British Sign Language (BSL) with a BSL Interpreter on stage during the show.
The performance will also offer a form of creative captioning, with a screen embedded into the set featuring animated slides, written character dialogue and scene descriptions.
