Over the winter, areas of the Crucible have undergone renovation to build a more welcoming space for audiences and members of the community to enjoy.
Crucible Kitchen
In the lower foyer, Crucible Kitchen, our brand new, cosy and modern café bar, is open to the public Monday – Saturday, 10am – 4pm.
Offering a selection of homemade soups, salads, and sandwiches, alongside tasty treats and freshly made coffee, you will be sure to find something to enjoy! By day, it’s a fashionable café, perfect for matinee bookers, remote workers, coffee connoisseurs and just for those passing by.
Come the evening, Crucible Kitchen transforms into a fabulous theatre bar, serving audiences before performances in the Crucible or Playhouse. With a wide selection of soft and alcoholic drinks available, it’s the perfect place to relax with a pre-show or interval drink.
The Playhouse FOYER
The Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse foyer, formerly the entrance to the Studio theatre, has also undergone a makeover, with the foyer space upgraded to reflect the new era of our smallest stage. The Playhouse was renamed during our 50th anniversary celebrations: in honour of the hugely influential theatre designer Tanya Moiseiwitsch, who had an essential role in the creation of the Crucible complex. The foyer has been transformed into a warm and welcoming space, which also doubles up as a conference room.
The Playhouse is a wonderful 400-seat theatre and has created some of the most memorable moments in our history. Over the 50-year history of the space, audiences have enjoyed performances from hundreds of actors, from professional debuts to famous faces including Victoria Wood and Alan Rickman. Home to Sheffield Theatres productions, Music in the Round, learning and participation projects, plus brilliant touring shows and one-off events, the Playhouse is bursting year-round.
Sheffield Theatres is a registered charity and we are very grateful to have received funding from Capital which enabled us to rejuvenate our spaces.
Sheffield Theatres gratefully acknowledge the support of Graham and Susan Royale through their GRI Group for their donation to enable the
re-development of the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse foyer.
