We're offering a bumper Christmas season for 2022, with huge, heart-warming productions playing in all three theatres over the festive period.
In the Crucible, the critically-acclaimed Sheffield musical Standing at the Sky’s Edge by Richard Hawley and Chris Bush returns from Saturday 10 December 2022 - Saturday 21 January 2023.
Poppy wants to escape her old life. Joy and Jimmy want to spend the rest of their lives together. Rose and Harry want the new life they’ve been promised. This is Park Hill - concrete utopia - where hope hangs on every washing line. Three ordinary families, one extraordinary heart-swelling, heart-breaking tale of love and loss.
Winner of the Best Musical Production at the UK Theatre Awards and the 2020 South Bank Sky Arts Award for Theatre, Standing at the Sky’s Edge is a celebration of strength and solidarity across six decades, set to the irresistible sounds of Richard Hawley.
Written by Chris Bush (ROCK / PAPER / SCISSORS) and directed by Sheffield Theatres’ Artistic Director, Robert Hastie (Guys and Dolls), the production is a love letter to Sheffield and ode to the iconic Park Hill Estate. Captivating audiences during its sell-out 2019 debut, Standing at the Sky’s Edge makes its return to Sheffield this Christmas, before transferring to the National Theatre in London in February 2023.
Across the square in the Lyceum, we team up with Evolution Pantomimes to stage the GIANT family pantomime Jack and the Beanstalk. This annual favourite will run from Friday 2 December 2022 - Tuesday 3 January 2023.
Starring drama and soap actor, Wendi Peters, legendary Sheffield Dame Damian Williams, Britain's Got Talent's Maxwell Thorpe, Marc Pickering, Sam Turrell, Joey Wilby and Sarah Freer, plus CBeebies’ favourite Waffle The Wonder Dog.
Once again the show will be written and directed by Paul Hendy and produced by the same team who brought you the sensational Cinderella in 2019. With stunning sets, comedy, audience participation and breath-taking special effects, Jack and the Beanstalk promises to be a fun-filled extravaganza, guaranteed to delight the whole family.
In the Tanya Moiseiwitsch Playhouse, children’s theatre company Tutti Frutti present Jack Frost and the Search for Winter, a charming production for younger audiences, running from Tuesday 13 - Saturday 31 December 2022.
Jack Frost is a mischievous young boy with a frozen touch. His magic transforms the landscape and brings the colours of autumn and the chill of cold winter. But this year when winter comes around, the snow begins to melt and along with it Jack’s extraordinary magic fades. In this frosty tale, Jack searches for winter and attempts to restore his special gift. Will Jack’s magic return?
An enchanting new play by poet and playwright Joseph Coelho with important environmental themes, a touch of wintery fun and original live music.
Tickets for all three productions are on sale now. Tickets can be booked through the Box Office in person, over the phone on 0114 249 6000 or at the links below.
