National Theatre Connections will be a buzzing week at Sheffield Theatres. As well as unique performances from local groups in the evening, we have exciting workshops led by industry professionals, aimed at developing talent and enhancing students’ study.
Workshops available:
Monologues and Duologues
Thu 21 March 2.00pm – 5.00pm
£5.00 per pupil
Working on a monologue or duologue at school, or thinking about applying to drama school? It can be a daunting process, especially if you have only said the speech aloud in your bedroom.
Led by one of Sheffield Theatres’ Resident Directors, you will look at the voice and some easy exercises you can do to give you the best chance of success. This workshop is aimed at getting you up on your feet and exploring the text more fully and practically.
Working with Shakespeare!
Fri 22 March 2.00pm – 5.00pm
£5.00 per pupil
This session will focus on putting text into context. It will explore questions underpinning characters and the way that Shakespeare structures language to give the actor clues to reinterpret the text for performance. By approaching the play as performers, students will engage with viewpoints from the inside. They will also have opportunities to analyse text from the practical viewpoint of an actor. This workshop is aimed at GCSE/BETC and A-level English, Theatre Studies and Performing Arts students.
Workshop leader Virginia became a member of the Royal Shakespeare Company Acting Company in 1992 and became Lead Practitioner for the RSC’s Education Department with responsibility for the delivery of Teachers programmes.
Bringing Text To Life
Tue 26 March 2.30pm – 5.30pm
£8.50 per pupil
Come and explore the exciting new National Theatre Connections play What Are They Like? by Lucinda Coxon.
Interpret text, communicate character, relationships and story, and explore the use of voice and movement. The session will work towards getting a section of the play on its feet. This workshop is £8.50 which includes a ticket to the evening’s double bill (performances of What Are They Like? By Lucinda Coxon and Mobile Phone Show By Jim Cartwright).
Devising Processes
Wed 27 March 2.00pm – 5.00pm
